The infamous Dong Bo Mountain Complex

On this day, the mountains are under heavy bombardment during operation "Burnside Beach" prior to a massive assault by the Korean White Horse Division.

According to one eye witness, Moe Elmore, "I have to say that the drop was pretty impressive.  I remember at least three V's of three aircraft and probably more, flying in formation.  Then, a drogue or extraction chute popped out followed by pallets of fuel filled barrels.  The individual barrels filled with JP-4 and mogas broke free during descent and spread all over the side of the mountain.

I don't know what the fire did to the caves, but it seemed to have cleared all the foliage away.  Later the Koreans would paint white paint around the mouths of the caves and fire their 155's directly into the cave mouths. They had moved their towed 155s onto a ridge that paralleled the mountain so the guns were firing direct lay into the caves; with excellent results we were told."
