Above are the classic diamond shapes or diamond cut styles. They are arranged in
alphabetical order: Asscher Cut, Brilliant or Round Cut, Cushion Cut, Emerald Cut, Heart Cut
or Heart Shaped, Marquise Cut or Marquise Shaped, Oval Cut or Oval Shaped, Pear Cut or Pear
Shaped, Princess Cut, and Radiant Cut. To see other diamond shapes or cuts that might

Technically, shape refers to the outline form of a diamond and cut refers
how well a diamond is fashioned or how well the facets are placed on a diamond. While
shape is a matter of preference, the cut of a diamond directly effects both its beauty and
value. With these things said, the two terms are often used interchangeably . . . even
within the jewelry industry. Now that you know the difference, don't give the matter a
second thought if you forget which is which when speaking with a jeweler. He or she will
understand exactly what you are asking or saying.
